Expedition Granted Project Submission
Over at National Geographic, there’s a little contest happening: $50k to fund an expedition. It’s called Expedition Granted and it asks for project ideas that inspire, inform and make a difference. I have just the plan: my grandfather’s love of photography connected him to local people in rural Japanese towns outside of Tokyo while he was stationed there during the Korean War. As a third-generation photographer in my family, I’d like to travel to Japan to connect with those he photographed to unite them with the images. In addition, I will create a body of work inspired by his Japan collection. Our work would serve as a testament to the power of trust, friendship and compassion during a time of war.
It’s a beautiful story and one that needs to be told, especially today. Finalists are announced on September 12. If I make it in, I’ll need your help to spread the word. The winner is chosen by popular vote. Wish me luck!

Missing the point? Not a cool enough post to share? Did I post in the wrong place? I'm full of questions.
Please don't get me wrong, I was under the impression that this forum part "people" is about pictures of people in all kind of sorts. That is why I did not get why this beautiful posting was in this forum…It is certainly a very interesting effort. But who am I ?
Good luck with your submission.
Well, it is a post about a project to connect photographs from the past to people in the present
I put it here and shared it because even though I photograph hundreds of people each year, this project and my grandfather's work connects me to what it truly means to be a photographer of people. Had I discovered only images of his that were landscape, I can't say I'd be as moved. Landscape is a territory my talents are not aligned with. I'm drawn to our collective story: I'm a photographer of the action, interactions and reactions that make us unique.
Thanks for the kind words, the encouragement and the conversation. I forgot how much I loved the discussion this place can host.
Best wishes,
Jesse

Jesse, this is amazing. And SO happy to hear your life is continuing to take you photographic places - woot!
I just didn't got it…. that is all.
Nothing more folks.
But you know what divamum…..….. I am not long enough on the forum apparently to ask something….. That is clear…
Just a misunderstanding on my behalf , but then again I am not a native speaker…..
And my comment on your statement was intended as fun… but then again written text is not that handy to put an expression in of fun.
(lack of intonation )

No problem for me. You are a valued contributor and have never been anything but polite. This is just a simple misunderstanding.
