Being an Idiot 101 - Intro course

It is a hot, humid day in New York and I am doing a shoot with a model I haven't seen in three years. We've been working on getting together for 4 months and she texted me this morning asking if I could shoot today. (Query: is that a reverse flake, usually the morning is reserved for cancellations LOL).

Anyway, about an hour into the shoot my camera starts giving me an "L" error whenever I try to change the aperture in manual. OH shit, I left my backup bodies at home (idiocy # 1). Anyway, 4 different lenses return the same error. However, if I switch from M to Av I can change the apertures using the dial.

SOOOO I switch from my normal "M" to Av while mentally cursing the repair bill from Canon on the 70D.

(Idiocy # 2) We continue this way until it occurs to me that "L" is the first letter of Locked, so I check the switch I have never used with any camera body (not ever) and, sure enough, somewhere, some ghost has moved to switch to locked. BangHead.gif

So the shoot still went OK and the model never knew anything was wrong but for about 45 minutes I was flying blind and using my light meter backwards.

So no matter how much I argue or disagree with people here, no matter how much I may comment that I don't like an image, you may now feel free to disregard me as a total moron.

    This _is_ Idiocy 101.

Call me when you get to graduate level Idiocy, where some of the rest of us play. (I don't work with models, because there is too much chance that I will be still be auto-bracketing from the landscape shoot the day before, or will have left all storage cards in various card readers not camera bodies.)

In the mean time, you have my (primarily lurking) respect for the quality of work you do.

Hahaha, I know the feeling.. and let me assure you that you are not the only one that has run into those issues…. I had once a shoot with several people supporting it, a expensive model and a raft of clothes that had to be showed. A shoot were nothing should go wrong….rolleyes1.gif

My camera was set to the "C" continuous focus mode, a small dial in the front that I NEVER change. More so since I focus on a certain point and let the camera adjust (focus), then I hold focus and reframe. That only works in S mode, and since I was in the "C" mode I could not retain the focus….. I changed the lens, the battery etc…… Nobody noticed it, but I was sweating like a pig….. Finally I noticed the switch…..rolleyes1.gif

Strange that simple things can throw you off for a while….ne_nau.gif
