Some snow geese too - but I couldn't manage to get decent pics of those - they're so white, I kept overexposing them:scratch I need to practice more white birds photography like those snowy egrets !

Lovely shots of the sandhill cranes. They get noisy as they warm up in the morning sunshine, and they sometimes get rowdy too.

    Nice warm New Mexcian sunlight.

I hope to get back again for a couple days this winter yet.

Your unknown bird looks like a bittern. (Could be a night heron. ne_nau.gif Nah... rolleyes1.gif )

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Nice Vandana, very nice!

It must have been more than exciting.

I love flocks of birds, never have captured them very well.

    And your lighting is wonderful.

thank you so much everybody !
It was a bright and sunny Christmas day - high of 70 I think ! Bosque is really amazing - the birds are much more friendly and close than any other place, and the lighting is quite perfect. You should all try to come - it's very 'satisfying' ! I believe folks try to coincide trips with the full moon to get those sandhills with the moon pics - but I'm sure there'll be a lot of tripod action on that flight deck !
Pathfinder - I saw some of your cool pics at your site ! they never seemed to have a brawl when I was around ! there's some angry looking pics there !!thumb.gifthumbMy sunrise was a little anticlimactic, before i knew it , those snow geese took off en masse and i kept staring - no pic !
    JCDoss - yes, you're right - it's a american Bittern - i googled that :)thanx

    New Mexico
I'd like to spend a little time there... haven't very much. I'll have google Bosque to see where it is.

Not too far from home near Sacramento is supposed to be a park that is similar for bird migration. You'd think I'd get myself up there wouldn't you! Wonder if a 200 zoom is worth much there? :):

thanks Dee! Bosque is about 1.5 hrs south of Albuquerque - closest town to stay is a place called Socorro. It is a great place to be this time of the year = Nov to Feb or March is when the sandhill cranes /snow geese come over here..
Sacramento - i'm sure you can do at least some good with a 200mm - depending on how close the birds come. Bosque was do-able with a Nikkor 300mm, some along with a TC 2x. Some other places i went to in NM - u need some serious glass :(
