Padlocks on homepage

I have created a site for viewing family photos - the entire site is protected by a password, but individual galleries are not password-protected - this allows permitted people to authenticate and view the entire site, but locks out everybody else. This works fine - no complaints.
However, when a user has authenticated they are shown the Home page, with a nice 'random' selection of recently-added photos: this is nice, but each of them has an ugly padlock in the middle.
How can I get rid of this padlock? I have seen no end of posts suggesting adding entries such as .locked, .sm-tile-locked to the site CSS, or setting a featured image for each gallery, however these only seem to apply to the display of padlocks when using Browse to view the site, they don't affect the Homepage.
Am I being very dumb and missing something obvious, or this this hard to do?

The padlocks may be showing because of content blocks you're using, or other security settings. We'd be happy to take a closer look, just send us an email to help@smugmug.com and we'll get it figured out.
