We had a pretty fierce storm roll up yesterday afternoon. Was out on the back deck getting some shots of the black clouds when I noticed one part of the sky that was pretty active. I decided to fire off a few shots in that direction just in case.....Yay I got one!
Not super but then, I wasn't really expecting it so I'm still happy.:D

a great photo - well done!

Its much harder in the daytime. At night you can just leave it open till you get one. Or two, or three.
Its a pity in all my lightning pictures there is always something in the way. Its not hitting that tree but the ground on the horizon behind it. I was going to keep going but the wind was almost knocking me over.

I can also see another in the middle of the shot. Its not as dangerous as you think troy...you just have to make sure you dont take any iron vitamins tablets.
I was speaking to another sparky here the other day. One storm that went through last week dropped a bolt onto a fence in a backyard where they were working. They saw 'ball lightning' travel along the fence...jump through the air & onto a stair railing & up into the house back door...it went over the cat (burnt his fur off in a strip) & into the stove blowing it to pieces.
Cat is fine but the 2 sparkies are still shaking !
Ball lightning is something i would really love to see.
I have heard of ball lightning once but never known anyone to see it. It sounds way too freaky to me!
I got my new tripod yesterday and the sky is starting to build up so maybe I'll get another go at it tonight.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
Heres a close one troy/shannon...small aussie mpeg I think some adjectives were edited though.
