So the 85mm Prime f1.8 is now a regular

:huhSHOCK.... but for the last three shoots I have actually heeded the clarion call (or something) of this board and actually now include the 85 mm as a regular part of my shoots. These are all shot at f2.0 and, as you can see with Anylza, I still have some getting used to this DoF.

These are from my Dia de Muertos shoot yesterday. The regular shoot will follow but the MUA I hired was awesome. Rather than beauty/Glamor, her background is theatrical MU and, it turn out, that was a good decision on my part.

You have seen each of these ladies in the past but how do you like their "new look"?

Nice st. I really like shooting with primes although high quality zooms are more practical for a lot of work.

Nice set but I really would love to shoot the tats.

Nice portraits. For one, the straight lines in the background add to the picture for my tastes. Sine they are blurred it almost like a sunburst behind her head. If they were in focus it would be sticks growing out of her hair.

    Thanks guys.

John, we agree about the sticks. Later in this shoot I went crazy trying to keep things from growing out of their heads.

I misread this at first. :D

Nice DOF. Can't believe I'm saying this to you, but it might be a little too thin on 1. The 85/1.8 is certainly one of Canon's "secret" Ls. But I don't care for their new short hairdos. You asked.

An "accurate" reproduction of a scene and a good photograph are often two different things.

I'm not crazy about it either but it's their head and their hair.

I saw that with # 1. Too funny that I started to lose her eye.

When it is that thin, it's acceptable, at least to me, to focus on one eye if they are not on equal DOF.

I absolutely adore my 85mm.. Even with her backfocusing issues, she's still a hell of a lens!
