I see the direction. Not sure it works in this case.

Thanks Ian, seems to be the up and coming thing in the circles I hang with that the seniors want. Trying to wrap my head around it still.

I don't know what the background is, but (to me) it doesn't appear to be related to the subject.
have you considered trying a bg that is?

Eg close up / almost abstract of a few boot lace holes / glove back / shirt No / net mesh / logo on shorts / macro of some helmet widget etc?

    pp

I also appreciate you sharing, but these aren't my cup of tea. I would want something more relevant to the school and/or team. Chacun a son gout. However in this one in particular, I find the face in the upper left to be creepy.

    Hi Charles,

The goal is noble, but the posted image does not work for me very well. Such blends can produce interesting and unexpected results, not all of them desirable. Here you have a head growing out of the shoulder. I also rarely dig mirror images, they have this beat up cliche aftertaste.

For me, the move in that direction started with the simple Orton effect -- a self blend with a blurred copy, or -- better -- overlaying two similar images with one being slightly more zoomed in and slightly out of focus. I still use this technique for increased contrast and romantic look.

Comp for the sake of comp rarely works. As always, the purpose needs first to be established.

    Best,
    Alex
