You don't have to see a lot of scenes like this and you begin to wonder what planet you're on. This feature is up in the northern part of Yellowstone....in the Mammoth Springs area. There's a lot more equally strange and fascinating sights up in that section of the Park. Be prepared for big crowds.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Thanks, Taz. As you can see, I've added a second shot to provide a different perspective.

Great shots of Mammoth. Just left there a couple days ago. Seems like more and more people are going in the late fall, much busier than I have seen in the past.

One thing I discovered over the years regarding Yellowstone is that most people don't get into the park before 9AM and start to leave by 4:30 or 5:00PM Then you only have other photographers to contend with :D

I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going anyway.

    Howdy Tom,

Those are stunning, Mother Nature just
never ceases to blow me away.

I'm surprised to hear the Number of Folks
up there, but seems like there's more
    folks on the Move now.

Looks and Sounds like y'all are having a
    wonderful trip.
    Take care,

I might as well have been on Mars. It's an overworked term, but " other-worldly " nails the description. I've been around some geothermal stuff in other parts of the world. But it's the sheer scope and magnitude of these features that makes Yellowstone such a marvel.

    See you, buddy,

That's a great tip, Phil, about traffic/time flow within the Park. That's the main reason I've elected to stay within the park itself.

    I appreciate your support.

I'm back home now....was up there early Summer. Phil ( roaddog52 ) just left up there and he said the place was crawling with people. I think you can look for growing crowds during the whole time the Park is open.

I'm keeping an eye out for whatever treats you throw our way.

    Take care,

    Howdy Tom,

That had to be such a neat trip, we headed up that way years ago, still
    remember it so fondly.

OK, I see that it had been Phil that talked about the Crowds.

Hopefully in the near future we can all meet up somewhere for a Shoot out and
    gather of the Herd :D:D:D

For the last 12 years I've lived 3 hours and 20 minutes from the South entrance and the first time I went there was the beginning of August -- I plan to go back in the Spring ..... It would be neat to plan a trip with others in the area and meet up for an impromptu 'expedition'

I've been wanting to show Darlene the Texas hill country. Austin might be a good spot to " gather the herd ". Could probably get Lauren to join us as well. Something to think about.

Put the word out on the forum. You can probably catch someone headed there that you can meet.

Stunning images, Tom! Yellowstone is on my list - I just need to hit the lottery so I don't have that pesky job getting in the way...

    That looks amazing!

I can smell that all the way up here. I was in Iceland for a couple of days and the smell is the first thing that greets you - on the airstairs just after landing. The entire island smells of sulfur rich hot springs rolleyes1.gif
    Creativity's hard.
