Criticism would be very welcome. This was near the Superstition Mountains, this morning.

Ok, here's my criticism, stop trying to romanticize and redeem those [insert words ziggy won't let me say on dgrin] evil things!

Have you ever been to Pinacate? We did a long day hike looping around Santa Clara (the dominating shield volcano) and then up to the craters on top of Santa Clara, then down the east side to our camp. It was getting really dusky as we entered a giant cholla field (of the big ones, that go over your head somtimes), it was like walking through a mine field at night.

That image is nice to look at. I think I'd say the same thing I've said before to one of your images, looks great, but I wouldn't mind if you cleaned out half of those to accentuate a couple, have a backhoe you can borrow? Barring that, very well exposed and times.

I might have tried a closer zoom on one them that was completely backlight.

JC, I think you know that I always value your advice. Thanks. I'll give some thought to your comments. I'm generally pretty adventurous in composing, but when I'm stalking a rising sun I tend to pick one composition and stay there. May be a bad habit, but there's so little time to adjust

Nice one Don! It is amazing how horrendous things like cholla can look so beautiful! It is like they mesmerize you and you get caught and then it is pure pain!

Nice. But I think I'd additionally like to see the Sun actually emerging or directly behind a Cholla or two. Tighter stuff ... maybe a tele wide open, just for contrast. I've always found it interesting how a Cholla will actually reach out and grab you when you're passing by.

I think your POV is perfect for lighting and composition.

Not having experienced them directly, nor wanting to do so anytime soon, I find this backlit image very striking with a nice composition. thumb.gifthumb

Love the backlit spines on those nasty things. Having said that, and after reading other's comments, I'm putting Az on my list of "Don't go there". :D

Love this Don. My only criticism is with the right side of the image...... a little cropping maybe? Always look forward to seeing your work.

Len, I know what you mean about the crop, and I went back and forth over it. I'll reconsider when I get home from work.

Mmm, chollas with golden back-lighting and a sun star. Very tasty! :eat

Thanks, Joel. I'd put some Tabasco sauce on the chollas, though.
