    Congrats to Dave !
A simply cracking shot and a deserved winner thumb.gif. There was some really good shots all round, esp Eternal Peace but then again I have a thing about Japanese/Chinese landscapes etc.

    Cheers

    What a great photo!
Deserving of the win even though there were so many good shots to pick from. Tough voting choices.

I loved that photo, but I didn't quite understand the message, though I thought I did. I think it was because my monitor doesn't go any brighter. What war was it supposed to be from? Am I on the right track. I could see the boots, a chair, and a gas mask (?). I wasn't sure about the gas mask.

I did think it was excellent!

    ginger (great toning, too.)

Congratulations on a very well done shot.

Ginger, what you see is a flight helmet and oxygen mask. I believe davidryan
is retiring from the Air Force where he flew B-52s.

Oh, well, Davidryan, that is really cool. A winning photo and retirement, too.

I liked the photo a lot, as I said, I was really confused if I thought it could be WW1 or something. I was thinking of poisoned gas.........I have not been in a lot of wars or military service. Makes sense though, high altitudes would equal a need for oxygen.

I knew that photo was excellent, though.

I very nice simple and touching photo. It is very moving especially for the time and I liked your choice in sepia.

I thought it was a great shoot and I didn't even know that davidryan was a Buff pilot. I'm betting that he has some great phots and has some cool stories. :D

I couldn't make out the patch so I couldn't tell if it was STRATCOM or not. Can you let us know more about the shot davidrayn? I'm curious to know more about it.

Hi all-- thanks for the support and the votes :D What an honor it is to have won. I'm so sorry it has taken me this long to get back here but I had a computer hard drive blow out-- a Christmas present from Fate this year! A special thanks to DanB for his push for the photos entry-- thanks man.

You want to know some stories from the B-52? Aw gees... not in mixed company rolleyes1.gif I could dig up a few older photos, though.

About "Standing Down." I was inspired to make the photo because when I finally got official word that I was leaving the USAF, there was a lot of very difficult emotions to weed through :cry It wasn't an easy decision to make. So I made a color version of "Standing Down" but it didn't capture the feeling I wanted-- a feeling that this part of my life is now the PAST. And of course, the props I used, te flight suit, the helmet, the O2 mask, the boots and flight jacket were my gear-- my facade, every day I stood up and took my spot in the plane. We recently had a full bird Colonel retire, too-- a man who was revered (and feared) by many. His way of saying goodbye was by leaving a pair of his flight boots, bleached white, on the door of our Group building-- an old tradition. We all have our ways of expressing feelings and thoughts. He did it his way, I did it my way.

Thanks again everyone-- I really appreciate the support.
