how to create a gif from 5 individual still images

Someone must know how to do this! I'd say I'm 'at my wits end' but that would give away how short a distance that really is.

    Are you talking about an animated GIF? If you have Photoshop, you can use the Animations panel to put them together, then use Save for Web to create the animated GIF file.

    late to the game, but GIMP (Free) will do it as well. Open your images as layers, and then in the filters-animation menu "optimize for gif", then filters-animation menu "play animation", then Export-Save As, select Gif and it will open a dialog box where you can select an animated gif and the speed the gif plays at, and several other settings, but the only one I usually change is the speed.
