SmugMug Event Page Customisation

Can anyone advise on how to customise an Event Page? The Customise Site disappears for the Event Pages. The pages in their current state are dreadful.

I did find a couple of customization suggestions at http://www.smugocity.com/CSS/Events, but based on the comments in this thread I suspect you will want full customization abilities.
