I have no idea what I'm looking at but I know I like your work here. That first one is outstanding....it's also a great example of your conversion techniques that I like so much. The last shot grabs my attention and won't turn it loose.
Good stuff, Eric,

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.
Gee sh!!!! Clicked on this not knowing what to expect. In my face and it startled me. These are fantastic cool; especially the last. What in this world or other is it?
Thanks very much y'all for your generous comments - I appreciate your feedback and support!
As Gary mentioned, this is the seed-pod from the Milkweed plant - there are around 140 varieties, and this is African Milkweed...
It has several colorful common names... Balloon Plant, Family Jewels, Bishop's Balls,,, and the one Gary mentioned that I hadn't heard yet ;-).
My wife cultivates in our yard and when I saw the pods in the various stages of growth and dessication, I knew they would make a great study in natural texture.

I was at a friend/gallery owner's place today and I showed him this series. As I was, he was taken with them all, but especially #1. He commented, however, that if he were to display this in his gallery, he would show it as a vertical shot...with the little furry ball at the top.
I looked at it that way and got blown away with the image all over again. I'm not generally drawn to vertical presentations but this image seems to have a slight ( and I mean slight ) more balance when viewed vertically, as he pointed out. I really think it boils down to personal preference.
Either way you see it, I'd have that one blown up and on a wall el pronto. Or as my friend said, it would be up in his gallery just about as fast.
See you, buddy,
Tom

Thanks for the suggestion Tom... I'm like you, for some reason I prefer landscape orientation (probably to a fault) most of the time, but, I agree - this one
does look just as good either way, and it does give it a new perspective.

I agree, the level of detail in #1 is outstanding.

Hey Cristóbal, thanks... This body/lens combination does a great job capturing detail.
Technicals for #1:
5DMk3 ~ 70-200mm f4L IS
manual mode ~ ISO 100 ~ 170mm @ f/16 ~ 2.5sec exposure, w/10sec timer shutter release
tripod mount/IS off ~ live-view manual 10x focus
Thanks for weighing-in Randy! It seems we have a consensus...
Great job my friend!bow
