Trying to find a link to a YES/NO for customisation under the "new" SM

Have tried searching for a few hours, but cannot find a definitive list of what we can now do. Our site has been dormant since the announcement, but still getting $250 a year bills.
Anyone got the links?
Thanks/Pete

I'm not sure what it is you're looking for. Could you elaborate on what it is you're trying to do?

I don't know if you're making use of this in Legacy, but there is no Javascript support in new Smug.
If you used HTML-only galleries in Legacy you will probably want to use pages instead in new smug. On my site (linked from my signature below), my Kaleidoscope page was an HTML-only gallery in legacy smug and is a page in new smug.
Overall I find new smug to be much better than legacy in presenting my photos (and my entire site) to the world. I had a highly customized Legacy site but I was able to quickly move to new smug using mainly the features embedded in the product.

We've been a bit slack as our adventures have been prolific and even keeping on top of our own editorial process has been difficult. Shoots along the Silk Roads and spice routes have taken up our time. Let alone the admin for sites!
When the whole "thing" changed we just didn't have the time to go back and revisit everything. As a result, we're now working out if it's actually worthwhile staying with SM as we had a LOT of custom code to make stuff actually work. Our site, as it is, was a test bed and we're still trying to work out if it's worth the effort.
Denise - your site has always been gold - we congratulate you on it and hope you're making some money. Thankyou also for the link to the "new" FAQ's - we'll continue to look at them over the next few days. Likewise Rain thankyou!
We're just in the blend of of giving up on SM - even downgrading doesn't look that good for us. The major change of topology that was evil to start with might make mroe sense now, but it's still a little off. It was difficult enough under "Old" but now it's all changed again, with the levels of granularity seemingly (yet AGAIN) specific to SM, and a bit short of real-world IT categorisation techniques/topology. The lack to preview when transitioning from "Old" to "new" is particularly an issue - rule #1 - test, re-test, and test again. Sure, we had this issue under "Old" but the inability to preview (without running multiple browser sessions) is a bit indicative of the lack of thought that went into the redesign and new pricing plans.
It seems like it's always a re-learning process with SM. The number of hours we've wasted bothering people like both of you, and countless others, with the old SM, and now to face it again. It's not exactly a brilliant proposition for us. Especially as the SEO stuff is now rarely mentioned, amongst other issues.
I appreciate that you may feel this is a rant - it isn't. It's just that the "new" SM makes everyone look the same, in a way. It seems that the purchase profiles are still same-same, no different as we say here in Asia. Still no regionalised printing or publishing.
There's now no "point of differention" really. And it's one heck of a price to pay for pro.

There is the ability to preview your site when you are in the mode before publishing your new site. You can leave your old site as is and experiment with new smug as needed - including publishing. The publish button gives immediate access to your updates to your site viewers after you unveil your site, but while you are working on your site and have not yet unveiled publish should only show the changes to you. You can verify this with smug support.

Thanks for the detailed reply and kind words. They're appreciated.
In addition to what Denise said, I think I see what you're referring to:
It sounds as if you refer to the "visitor view" on the Old SmugMug. That's a type of feature that is incredibly high maintenance and difficult to pull of as many parts of SmugMug rely on sessions and cookies, which each part of the site would somehow have to ignore while in visitor view. As far as I can recall, on the Old SmugMug the feature didn't reliably work with password protected content and I hardly ever used it.
With the New SmugMug, things are much more complex and almost all modern browsers come with a built-in private browsing (Firefox) or incognito (Chrome) feature that allows you to open a clean browser window to view your site as a visitor. That feature is just one keyboard shortcut away.
It was a conscious decision to invest the time, money and engineering power a "visitor view" type of feature would have taken up, directly into the New SmugMug for the benefit of all.
If you do use Firefox or Chrome, give the private / incognito browsing feature a try. It's a really great feature.

Denise - what I mean by real world IT topology is in the context of a CMS (Content Management System). This should be defined by the actual user/owner of the site, not some arbitrary system. That said, I have yet to play around with the "new" system so I may be able to teak it accordingly.
Seb - yeah I understamd that, but it's still a little problematic. Visitor view worked sporadically (as you say), albeit I take your point about maintainability - I'm sure it was/is a problem.
Given it's just auto-renewed, I guess I should pull the lead out and actually try to "use" the "new".
Thankyou both for your insights and helpful dialogue.
