View from the 'office' tonight as cruised northward away from the madness that has been SFO the last two weeks.

Incredible shot. Love the light on the clouds and the composition with a piece of the wing adds to it.

Be faster to land at OAK or SJC and take the bus to SFO lately lol3.gif

Thanks, it was one of the better sunsets I'd seen in awhile so it helped the comp!

Howdy! Indeed it was, but it actually wasn't quite 'home' just heading to the next stop. The most beautiful is the last leg home of each trip no matter the weather ;)

Yeah the bay area was crazy that week! It's a CRJ (commercial) which is a cousin of the Challenger which is a biz jet.

I was thinking of this shot yesterday as I was walking the dog. Lots of North/South contrails at the higher altitudes. And one East to West that, when it petered out, was well out to sea. I always wonder where those are headed. Anyway, right then, an A380 turned for it's final approach to SFO. Man, those things are huge!

Nice! Yeah the A380 is huge, but that is one fugly airplane! An amazing feat in design and engineering but aesthetically it looks like a potato with wings. The stretched versions do look better but nothing will ever compare the mighty 747.

The 747 is iconic. Have you ever sat in a cockpit? There's a complete flight deck at Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carolos. So cool. It's the "front clip" from an old Flying Tigers cargo conversion. Pretty cool.

Been up there to say hi but never sat in the jumpseat during flight. As luck would have it I've always had a business or first class seat on the 747 so an obvious choice vs. the jumpseat! Though one of these days I do want to sit up front just to have done it. On my current career trajectory I won't be able to fly a 747 as they'll likely be retired by the time my seniority could hold it. Unless I go fly for a cargo outfit but not really in the cards right now.

Hiller is actually fairly close to our crew hotel in SFO, will have to go check that out next time!

I hit Hiller with a small group of riding buddies. As it happened, we got a retired 747 captain as a tour guide (he's a docent for the museum) so got to sit in the seat and receive "flying lessons". That was pretty cool because he'd obviously enjoyed his time in them and was pretty passionate.

Hiller has a real place in the history of aviation. Helicopters and some of the weird stuff for soldiers, the bits from an early Stanford wind tunnel, and one of the only SST mockups. Some very cool stuff to see.
