These are incredible! My favorites of the set are 2, 6, 7, and 11. I love that you show both the surfer and the photographers - but the wave only shot in 7 shows the power of the ocean, awesome!

I agree with Denise - great series. And I might venture to say that there may be more photographers at the Mavericks this year than there are surfers!

Outstanding work, Joel.....worthy of being published in any surfing magazine.

    Merry Christmas,

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Jo, there really were a lot of photogs, but there were a lot of surfers too. Maybe about even. It's quite a scene.

    Rags, I used a Canon 7d2, 100-400, and 14' Boston whaler.

Denise and Bret, I'm told these are the largest surfing waves in the USA. Truly massive.

Wow. Thanks for bringing us on this safari. 2 and 15 for me. Love the color in 2. The jetskier in the fg adds to the documentary, but if I were to hang this on my wall I think I'd shop him out.

An "accurate" reproduction of a scene and a good photograph are often two different things.

Thanks, Jack. Yeah, I'd probably do some cloning if I printed any of these.

These are great. What a "picture rich" environment! I'll have to say #15 is the one I stared at the longest. Great juxtaposition! I love how small the surfer appears compared to the wave.clap.gif

Great set! Surfing big waves is a crazy hard thing and you captured it well!
