Sooooo...we just got back from a private rafting trip on the Colorado River. We spent 19 days, covered 280 miles of river, enjoyed a few side excursions, smashed the biggest rapids we've ever rafted, and pooped in an ammo can with views that couldn't be beaten.

Here are a few shots from the trip. Thanks for viewing, C&C welcome, enjoy!

Very nice series of what looks like a great trip. Hard to pick favorites, but I like the light in #16 and 17.

Thank you both! 16 & 17 were taken at the Havasupai nation land, Havasu River. The water was incredible aqua, and we played HARD there! Lots of swimming, jumping off of rocks, floating through the mini-rapids. Great times!

#6 was a giant slide that I couldn't pass up. #8 was our camp one evening and was the only place we could see the rim of the canyon. The moon was bright, so I had to take the opportunity for a capture.

Thanks, Sam, it truly was the adventure of a lifetime. Re-introduction into the world of electricity, cars and busy-bodies has been tougher than we had imagined. And I won't lie, I miss the ammo can. Modern toilets have walls, doors, and are quite stinky. Plus, there's never a view.

We shot over 3700 frames, although some were sequential action shots and will be deleted. Keep your eyes peeled in the different categories for more pics over the next week or two!

Boco, I forgot to mention, #18 was the largest rapid of the trip. The big curling wave on the right side at the bottom was a solid 9ft. tall, about 15+ft wide...and we SMASHED it!!!

What an adventure! So cool to get such great shots of places along the Colorado River that most folks will never see.

Great stuff. That turquoise water in 16 and 17 reminds me of the water in pictures I've seen from Havasupai.

Thanks kdog! Those shots were from Havasupaithumb.gif We eddied out and paddle a pack raft and duckie up the stream to do a little hiking and playing.

Thanks for such high compliments! I think, now that we're pretty set on being west-coasters, maybe we should adventure together sometime.thumb.gif

Thank you Carl! No. 2 was a real surprise to all of us, as we had just beached and set up camp in Nankoweep for Thanksgiving. Just about the time dinner was being prepared, the red mask descended into the canyon, and fortunately it was not my evening for kitchen duty. I grabbed the camera and sprinted to the river bank for this one. It seemed like every 30 seconds the light was drastically changing!

Fun Fact: Thanksgiving celebration here was a blast. We made a fire bomb with lighter fluid and a barrel pump (used to pump up the rafts), had a giant mustache pinata, and made friends with our neighbors after failing to secretly leave a surprise in their ammo can. Turns out, wandering through the dessert scrub forest while quite inebriated is MUCH louder than ninja mode.

After rereading this I am wondering where you obtained a jumbo 19 day ammo can?

We had 4 50mm ammo cans. They required a little compacting, but it worked out. :flush
