Bert's Boat

On the Colorado River, in the Grand Canyon, there's a significant stop worth making. In 1949, Bert Loper, at age 79, took his old wooden boat down the river to his final crash and burn. His boat flipped, he swam to safety, and had a heart attack on the river bank.

His boat is still there today, for others to appreciate, so long as you're willing to run the river and make the stop to visit. Here are a few shots I snagged from the site.

As usual, C&C is always welcomed, and thank you for viewing!

Thanks for the history lesson. I was looking at the boat and wondered two things:
    1) Who would run those rapids in a plywood boat?
    2) When was plywood invented

The first answer is obvious from your post.

The second answer is: Plywood was invented and used over 1,000 years ago! Who knew???

    Thanks for posting
