Lightroom-Sync Hierarchy Question

Hi.
I am new to using Lightroom, and I have spent the morning searching online here and in Google for a definitive answer to what I am sure is a silly simple question but...I just want to be sure before I go any further:)

I installed the latest plugin for smugmug into lightroom 5

Does "sync hierarchy" ONLY sync my smugmug gallery names/categories etc? I do NOT want to have my smugmug photos synced down to my computer (I have way too many for that!)

I want to be able to upload new photos TO smugmug but I am not concerned with bringing pics down to lightroom. I think if I read it correctly then syncing the hierarchy but not checking "sync photos" will just bring my categories etc which will guide me in uploading to any that are already created.

Thanks!!!

    Hello Swcolleen,

Sync Hierarchy only publishes the photos from Lightroom to SmugMug, not the other way around. It will allow you to keep the photos that you do have in Lightroom organized the same way they are on SmugMug.

If there's anything else we can help you with, just let us know!

Just to clarify further on Amanda's post - it does not download anything to your computer - it attempts to find what you have already published in SM in Lightroom and links them. So if you have thousands of photos, the process takes very little time at all.

It is really useful to have your images linked - that way if you want to change anything in Lightroom, from Metadata to processing of an image already published to SM, you can do it with one click.
