I like this shot and you may have been able to improve the composition by repositioning to the left, but I wasn't there and don't know for certain. I like the diagonal line of the fence and the rolling shape of the hill. It's my humble opinion that the exposure could be pushed a bit to increase the detail and whiten the snow. it also appears as if the white balance is slightly off creating a blue cast.

I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going anyway.

I agree with Phil,
If possible, would like to have seen more space given to the left. Ofcourse, there may have been a landfill site to the left, in which case you were right to crop it out! lol
Thanks for the feed back. As far as more to the left its just more of the same hill and where i was standing there was a truck right next to me. Also very little if any pp, its pretty much how it came of the card but i will attempt to make some of the suggested enhancements.

Hi Catcher,
I don't think it matters that it was more of the same hill, empty space in this instance is fine. All your looking for is abit of breathing space to the left of the fence, just to leave it feel slightly less bunched up. Just gives abit more balance to the overall composition. Not always possible though I understand.
Thanks, this is why i post here so i can learn So I drove back up the street ( its only a few blocks down the road) not the best of conditions and the sun was setting behind the clouds in the upper left. This is what the rest of the area looks ...

Hi Catcher, In fairness, you don't have much to photograph there!
If I were you, I would try and get closer to that fence, with a wide angle lens, try and pick up some detail and texture in the wood, and use the wide angle to give you shot some depth with the receding fence. If you can use the fence to lead to something, a building/tree/mountain, all the better.
If not, then go for a minimalist type shot, with the fence being the main subject, and the only detail in the shot --- Just make sure to get close and get a good sharply focused shot of the grain of the wood! Something for the eye to investigate.
Also, if possible, try getting up there for sunrise/sunset so you can have some interest in the sky. You may be lucky enough to have a red sky and the snow turn pink with reflectance "Alpine Glow".
Below are some examples of leading fence lines (not mine), they're all quite minimalist. Like I said, personally I'd try and get a red sky, or some kind of stormy moody clouds.
As fr as where in the UK or in that area Scotland is on the itinerary so far but we're still in the planning ... anyway this is one i took this summer . i guess as a comparison..
I really like that one. Combine that with your snow scene, with a colourful or dramatic sky, and your on to a winner!
Places to visit would depend on your interests really. As far as Landscapes go, The Scottish Highlands if you want Mountains and Lochs, Also plenty of islands around Scotland with nice coastal areas and wildlife. In England you've got the Lake District which is quite mountainous and with lots of pretty lakes, there's Cornwall on the south westernmost part of England, good for Coastal Photography, and then North Wales for dramatic Mountains, and South for slightly more gentle rolling hills. Plenty of Waterfalls and coastal opportunities all around Wales. Check out my website for some examples of South Wales. www.celticcompositions.co.uk
