Also known as the earpick or cone fungus. This was on a fallen, decaying pine cone, its normal habitat. It is one of the small group of fungi, including Hydnum, the Hedgehog Fungus, which have spines, instead of gills as its spore-bearers.

EM-1 (manual mode), Kiron 105mm, 1/250, probably f11, flash, hand-held.

    Thanks. I hope to find that one again and take more time over it. The location when we found this example is due for redevelopment, one of the richest fungus ecosystems I have seen. :(:
