Homepage thumbnail randomiser

I asked about this in an email "conversation" a while back but want to open it up to the wider forum audience. Apologies if it's been asked before, but my homepage, currently configured as collage/landscape, in medium tile size, is a collection of fairly random photos chosen from several different galleries on my site. No doubt this is a fairly common setup, but I wonder why there isn't an option for the site to choose a random selection from those same galleries, maybe once every hour or every day, just a simple randomiser? Right now, I manually pick a selection that lasts maybe a week or so, then I go in and change it, but it's a bit of a chore. Any chance this could be implemented?

I'm sure a number of other users would love to have this feature too. I've gone ahead and created the Feature Request for this. Make sure to vote on it here: http://feedback.smugmug.com/forums/17723-smugmug/suggestions/6934361-randomly-select-images-for-multiple-photos-content

Still no movement on this request? I think it would be a great feature for those of us who use the "Multiple Photos" option on our homepage, for the site engine to pick up to 48 completely random images from all galleries, and for it to re-pick a new bunch every day / week / month or whatever. Would it be that hard to implement?

    Hi Kurgen,
While some things may be "easy" to implement, unfortunately we can't get to every Feature Request due to the massive number of amazing requests that come in. We're hard at work, implementing a number of really exciting items on our Roadmap that I think you'll all enjoy quite a bit! As of now, we're not working on randomizing the images in the multiple-photo content block. We'll be sure to update the Feedback Forums if there's any movement!

Hmmm... that's a pity, but I didn't expect anyone to jump to it just because I requested it, just thought I'd ask again after six months. Thanks for the reply.

We're always here to answer any questions regarding the status of a Feature Request. If I have an estimated timeframe that I can share, I'll make sure to do that, and if I don't have any ETA, I'll let you know that as well :)

    >Sort order options<

Having seen a request for a similar thing (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=241038) I wondered if this might be an easier alternative to implement on the homepage than a built-in randomiser? I guess it could be in the customise|content and design|home page|multiple photos|basic/display section?

While it's not automatic, you can go into the Organizer, go into a gallery, select all the photos, and then press "Ctrl + Shift + R" to randomize them.

Yeah, but that only works on a specific gallery, there is no randomise function in the "Multiple Photos" options for the homepage... :-/

OK, I'm now fairly resigned to there never being a randomiser option for the homepage, but how easy / difficult might it be to have a "drag & place" feature for the homepage thumbnails, rather than them being placed in order of selection?

Unfortunately it's very difficult based on how the picker was originally designed. I've been having discussions with folks since the day I started working at SmugMug over a year ago and it's something we want to fix, but haven't had a chance to sit down and work on. Some day, it will happen!
