First trip to Yellow stone. Already find myself counting days to second!
Wanted to create photos with impact and some artsy value, but that as we all know is easier said than done.

Below is my effort! All criticism and helpful pointers are cherished!

Wow. :jawdrop That about says it! #3 and the Buffalo shots are my favorites. Although the wide shot of the herd is a main contender. Once again I bow to your expertise with wildlife.

The shots look fine but the white balance looking to yellow.
Shouldn't it look more like this?

What a great set you got, I can see why you want to go back. Tough to pick a favorite, like them all.

Hi Dave, thanks for the feedback! They surely would look like that if they were taken mid-day or in overcast light....which has its own value and I love all kinds of light.

These shots however were taken in beginning of Golden hour, which happens to be my favorite kind of light, and i chase it often, and finding it is rare. I don't want to change white balance because I like the golden light and it takes away the punch from the light.

Regrettably I had to leave early, but if I had another half hour or so and if clouds did not blot out the sun, then the critters would have looked like this........Cheers!

You ought to put it on your do list!
I hear though that I had great week, and the scores are not always available but the mood and everything else was so awesome, it is worth trying irrespective of the score!

Great set, Taz. #3, 4 and 20 are my favorite comps here. In fact, 4 is just brilliant. I'm jealous of #6, I was driving when you got that shot.

What a wonderful variety of images you amassed Taz. How many days did this shoot take? I won't even attempt to pick a favorite here, they are all spectacular !! bowdown.gif

Hi John, always great to hear from you! Cant say thanks enough!

We spent about 10 days in different parts of Yellowstone. The Gardiner entrance towards North had the best action. Spent 2 days in West Yellowstone and then spent a day towards Tetons/Jacksonhole side.

BTW, if you are ever in Northern California, you have a cab and tour guide available!! Cheers!

A terrific set no doubt! I envy you those wolf shots - you were able to get pretty close. Up in the Lamar Valley, yes?

    Thanks much! Greatly appreciate it!

Yes the Lamar Valley! It happened on day-1. At that time I didn't know how rare and precious the moment was. I was still under the assumption that we would see dozens more, like a trip to Africa or something. Also, I wish I had 500mm. Took the pictures of whole pack but they were little further out.

So if you are ever there, plan should be to look for Ravens.....they hang around carcasses or just tracks in the snow..... Then get their pre-dawn and hope either other folks don't know about the spot, or they are lagging behind. The wolves don't hang out during day near the roads, so night time is when they return and stay on the carcass till morning.....actually night and day has nothing to do with it......they leave when they see people.

It's a terrific set of images. Just being able to see all that wildlife had to be an amazing experience. It is hard to choose a favorite but I've settled on #14. I like the simplicity of the composition and there is something magical about the untouched snow.

Thanks Lauren! I love your CC!
Truly recommend it...it helps the economy over there too and at least the North Entrance side, near Gardiner, they are totally reasonable and nice people and very small town. Good food and nice bars, all at non-touristy prices. The West Yellow Stone side and Jackson Hole side, those are tourist towns and bit different.

It truly was something else and hope to inspire others to go! Cheers!

I went to Yellowstone a couple pf times when I lived in Idaho, but only in summer--although we did wake up to snow on a July morning. Went in the West entrance and to Jackson Hole (had to see the Tetons on my bucket list) so never saw the Gardiner area. I do want to go back.
