Love these kinds of shots, but I don't seem to get what I see translated very well. For what it is worth Don likes the first 3 if they had been taken somewhere else:wxwax The last one he sees no point in but I kinda like it:dunno
All hand held with the 70-200 and 1.4TC

First the nit: they all seem to be just slightly off horizontal. Not enough to be pleasing, just enough to be annoying.

They could all use more "pop".

The compositions don't maximize your subject matter. The bench seems to be thrown in, either lose it, or make it more prominent and have it work for you. Same with the fisherman. And the pole/light thing...not sure why that's there in the composition as it stands....

First off thank you David for taking the time to look and critique.

The light pole. That was actualy the subject of the shot, I like the way it looked jutting out into the water. When I got home and there were houses in the background I tried to make something out of the picture anyway, bad idea. That needs a do over from a better angle.

Your right too much in the fisherman shot, will see if I can do something there and with the bench shot..I kinda like the bench.

Not sure how to get POP in the pictures. The water is mud puddle brown on a sunny day and it is just a rather drab place, on a dull drab day it is worse. Will see if I can do something.

The horizontal bit had me confused. The clubhouse was cocked to the right and I though I had it straight, after a closer look I went to far left. The others all looked fine to me BUT I went back and looked (twice) and now I see that they are off.

    Again thanks

Give the tutorial that I linked a try. I think you'll find that you can get more out of those shots.

David..That looks much better!!! I downloaded, but have not installed CS2 (30 trial) this would be a good time to give the TT and CS2 a try.

I do read quite a few and try to follow along, now it could just be me, but I can never quite get to there from here with PSE3..Besides (me) being a total bust at PP:D

    Is this better?
Didn't use CS2 used PSE3 and a curves plug-in, doesn't work quite like the TT, but ok, muddled through.

    Yes I know it's the light pole:D

Better, yes...be careful when you straighten...you left white margins on your photos.

Were those first posts the original files? Or had you processed them already? If they weren't the originals, it'd be interesting to see what they were. Did you shoot RAW or JPEG?

    Ok better, thats a start.

The pictures I posted were processed, I'm am shooting raw (still working/learning that whole process) yes i read the TT. Rutts help with the conifers helped quite a bit.
The last two using curves I just used the tiff. Rats on the white around the shots. I cropped to get rid of that..Geez.

Do you want a look at the raw?

Again Thanks David for taking the time with this, greatly appreciated.

    Hi Thusie,

IMO the main problem is that when I look at the shots I'm not sure what I should be looking at, there is no obvious subject. Your trying to show too much. Try to find a way to highlight / isolate / lead us to, the thing that initially appealed to you about the scene.

Thank you Jamie and Gubbs! Much to learn and with this type of shot (any shot), my eye and mind are not in sync with the camera/lens, or with what others see....Then there is the PPumph.gif Back out to try again IF it ever quits raining, some sun would be nice too.

    I do appreciate the comments
