My S9000 back up camera

Hello All,

With my S9000 on the side lines, I had to use my D60 as my back-up.

There is a world of difference shooting this type of event. The S9000 beats my D60 in many ways and enables capture of moments not possible with my D60. The weight is also another issue. I shot a Halloween Parade with my S9000 and it was a pleasure.

My broken S9000 gave me a chance to use my DSLR again.

After today's shoot with my D60 (and its lenses), once I get Fuji to fix my S9000, I may just get a second S9000 as my back-up. Changing a lens and no live preview are things my current style of shooting does not want to deal with anymore.
Please don't jump on me, this is just my opinion.

It is nice to know the D60's 6MP can capture good detail:

Yeah, but you're leaving the most important part out of the comparison: what lens are you using on the D60? You could trump a 1DmkII with the S9000 as well if you duct taped a coke bottle to the lens mount.

No live preview? Yes there is! I call it the viewfinder.ear.gif

Yes, I know what you mean, I'm just playing. Hope you get everything all fixed with your S9000.

    My S9000 backup
    Thanks for your comments.

I have only compared the S9000's functionality to my D60, not the image quality.

For example, image 4 was shot holding my D60 high over my head with me hoping that I was pointing in the right direction.

Image 6 was shot using the D60's self timer and holding my extended monopod way over my head (probably 9-10' high), again only guessing if I was pointing my lens in the right direction.

Either way it was alot of fun.

    Thanks again,

    Regards, Nicholas

It's nice that there is a variety of camera choices. I prefer SLR's myself, but I did enjoy many things about my coolpix 990. Loved the swivel, the ability to shoot kids without having to get on my knees to get the camera down to their level. It's also nice not to have to take 50lbs of lenses with me.

My coolpix was my first step into digital. I loved that camera, but missed many things about having an SLR when I had it.

I'm encouraged by Fuji's advancements in high iso's for those small cameras -- and Sony's pioneering the use of the APS sized sensor. I'm surprised that Nikon and Canon haven't put a 350xt or D70 sensor into an all in one digi-cam.

Sorry your new camera broke -- that must be a real bummer. Hope they fix it for you hassle free.

    Broken Command Dial
    Thanks Lee,

I have a pretty solid report that Sony has licensed its R-1 sensor to the other big guys, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, etc.

They will be worth watching in the very near future to release 10mp cameras. I hope they have better low light AF and are wider than 4.8 at the tele end of their lenses.

Will Fuji come out with an APS Super CCD in a Prosumer? It would be nice.
