Upload files other than photos

I want to post a PDF file for user download on a Smugmug web page. Possibly some other files. How can I upload files other than images, and add links to them?

PDFs can't be stored directly on smugmug. From the help page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93278-what-types-of-files-can-i-upload-to-smugmug-:

You can add an unlimited number of JPEG, GIF, and PNG files to your SmugMug account.

You'll need to upload PDFs and other types of files to another location, then link to them from your SmugMug site. One option for storage of files like this is to upload them to a site like Dropbox, Google Drive, or others and link to the files on that site.

I make a jpg or png image of the PDF, which I then embed where I want, and then provide a clickable link to download the file. I do not want visitors to have to leave my site to obtain the PDF. I think Dropbox or Google Drive require that, last time I investigated (Dec. 2013).

Visitors to my site don't have to be members or give any info to freepdfhosting.com to obtain the PDF; also don't have to leave my site.
Registration on freepdfhosting is also free, with up to 5 documents hosted for free; after that, donation required.

Depending on your domain/hosting company, you can create a sub-domain and upload them via a FTP program. Then link them that way.
