For the life of me I have been trying to figure out how to do a layout like leftquark customization website... http://www.aaronmphotography.com/ With the logo and menu taking up a vertical strip on the full length of the left hand side of the page and then the bordered container with fill color.

With the header at the top and the body/site content taking up the middle, I can't figure out how to do this. I'm guessing it is something quite simple that I am just overlooking....or is it CSS that I am not overly familiar with??

Please help.

Thanks.

In the customizer > entire site > layout tab, you need to enable the left sidebar and set its width. Then drag any existing logo/menu from the header into the left sidebar. You can tweak the opacity of the sidebar in the theme.

We will be able to give you much better advice if we can actually see your site. Please add a link to it to your signature: click the clipboard icon in the upper right > edit signature, and add the link there. Thanks!

Thanks Anna. I've added my site to my signature....it is still a work in progress so some pages are not finished :)

I figured this layout used the left sidebar but when I enable the sidebar it does not extend up to the top of the page because the header is in the way. How do I enable the sidebar to go all the way from upper left corner to lower left corner ( I guess almost eliminating the header ?? ) ?

I believe you need to remove the header and place your logo and menu on the sidebar.
Unfortunately your current logo and site name combination is a bit wide to be placed on a sidebar.

I do have a different logo that I would use in the more narrow width sidebar but how do I remove the header? If I just delete the items in the header right now there is still a header placeholder that I can't delete (on entire site) and the sidebar does not move up.

I took a screenshot of my site with the left sidebar enabled and items in it and it shows how the header is in the way so I can't move my sidebar up or delete the header. I've reduced the width of the header to a minimum thinking I could move the sidebar up but I still can't.

Karen, if the header is empty, all other content will move to the top after you publish.
