Hi!

I currently have my blog on wordpress using a custom URL, purchased through wordpress. I would like to redirect that URL to my smugsite so that my smug front page becomes my landing page. I don't care if the blog becomes customurl.wordpress.com, so that's fine... I just need to figure out HOW to do this. Anybody have a walk-through anywhere or willing to talk me through the steps?

Also, I need to know how/if changing this this will affect customer access to existing galleries.

Thanks in advance!!

    Hiya divamum,

There's a few steps to linking your custom domain with your SmugMug site. Within the DNS manager at the domain registrar, you need to point the 'www' in the CNAME recored to 'domains.smugmug.com' After that's been done, and the changes have populated you can add the custom domain address into the domain filed in the SmugMug account settings. Here's our help page on linking your custom domain with your SmugMug site: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93340-how-do-i-use-my-custom-domain-?b_id=1644

As always, SmugMug Support Heroes can help you set the domain up. Simply shoot an email to help@smugmug.com with the login credentials and we'll help link the two. Change the password to something temporary. After it's all done, you can change the password back.

    THANKS!! Worked a treat.

Question: links off my smug homepage are still showing up as the old name - do I simply rewrite the links to point to customurl/page, or is there another step involved?

Yes. I actually went in and changed them manually and they seem to work as desired. All good!

One last query on this... I thought it was all working fine, but checking it on another computer I note that no matter what I do http://divatography.com is defaulting to the wordpress site, and I don't want it to... What I WANT is for divatography.wordpress.com to go to the blog, and www.divatography.com (or http://divatography.com) to go to smug, but I can't figure out how to edit it to make that happen and it's messing up a bunch of menu links for me (only appears to be certain computers, but I want to make sure EVERYBODY can be directed where they need to go, regardless of how old their browser is!). Attached is a screenshot of what I see when I entire "edit domains".

    Thanks in advance!

    According to smug's help page:
Within the domain forwarding area, point the version of your domain address without the www to the address with the www: example.com > www.example.com.
I believe you need to use CNAME (and you probably already have) for www.divatography.com and you need to point http://divatography.com to http://www.divatography.com. I think in many places this is handled with a forward.

The screen shot you pasted in shows that the A record for divatography.com is handled by wordpress. That needs to be changed.

If you would like you can send your login information at wordpress in to us at help@smugmug.com and we can get it routed over to one of our domain heroes to take a look at for you. Looking at your screenshot I'm not 100% on what needs to be changed there to get it all set up properly. But our domain heroes should be able to get you sorted.

Thanks! I will do that, as I'm struggling to figure out how to make the changes.
