Running a Multi-Photographer Studio?

Greetings:) I'm hoping to pick the brains of folks who have multiple photographer studios. Are your shooters set up as 1099's or employees? Do you pay them a flat rate based on package or by the hour? Who does the editing? Do you have a clause if they back out from a wedding and how does that work? Any help is appreciated!
