First hoverfly this year into the garden - I found it on the floor, and placed it on a flower or two, hoping it would pick up a bit of energy. The cold evening air is I assume the reason for it being lethargic. Syrphus torvus.

The first one is the perfect framing for a portrait.
I saw my first hoverfly yesterday, hovering at just above head height. There were also some Bee-flies on rockery plants.
I often find a bumble bee in need of revival. If putting them on a flower does not work I cup them in my hands and breath on them, Then I offer dilute sugar or honey. A couple of days ago I did all that, for one I found on its back in the conservatory, but, having drunk some dilute honey, the bee died.

Slowly but surely our winged friends are reappearing.
