I have made all my folders and galleries private bar one.

In that non-private gallery I have moved two images into it.

When I'm logged in I see the two images.

When I'm logged out the gallery says it's empty.

I have checked the two images and they are not marked hide.

My site is grayheron.smugmug.net

Can anyone throw some light on this?

Cheers

Garry

    Hi Garry,

It looks like that one public gallery has two images which are actually collected from a private gallery. When you collect images, they take on the gallery setting of their original gallery and not the one they are collected to. So in this case, they are still maintaining the security setting of private from their original gallery.

If you upload two new images directly to that gallery or make full copies of those two images and move them into that gallery, you should be able to see them logged out. Here is a little more information about collecting images as well:

If you have more questions about that though, just let us know.
    Thanks,

    Still confused
Thanks for the info, however, I'm still having problems.

'All' I wish to do is show some images from my various private folders on my homepage.

Is there a simple way of doing this?

An image inherits permissions from the top most folder that it resides in, so the only way that I could think you would get around this, would by uploading a second version of the image into the public folder itself.

AperturePlus is right, because collected images will always inherit the security setting from its original gallery, you'd need to either upload a new set of images you'd like to be seen into a public gallery. Or, you can make a copy right on the site. Then you can move those copies (not collect them) into a public gallery instead.

If you want to make a copy on the site instead of uploading a new batch, you can do that from within the gallery. Go to an image and click on the wrench icon>make a copy. Once a copy has been made you can move those copies completely over to a new, public gallery.

If you have more questions about that, just let us know.
    Thanks,
