I forget exactly how I did it...and oh is it dated now but I made essentially a splash screen along with a few other pages in the old smugmug (about/contact sections). Once I update does this to the all style will all that go away and I'll be left with just the new layout?

When you fully Publish your new SmugMug site, your Old SmugMug site will go away, and visitors will start seeing the new version of your site. Before you publish the New SmugMug, you can fully customize your new site behind-the-scenes to style it to your taste.

If you want to create something similar to your old SmugMug site, with a "splash" page (w/ slideshow), header logo, and simple nav bar, that can be done fairly easily in the New SmugMug. This is what I'd recommend:

    1) Click Customize > Content and Design, and click the Settings button in the header. Set the "Independent Homepage" option to on. This option makes it so that your homepage does not show any customization you've added under the Entire Site section. This option is essentially there to allow you to turn your homepage into a "splash" page.

    2) Next, in the Customization mode, click the Homepage heading in the customization sidebar. Add whatever content you want here (logo, single image, menu content block, slideshow content blocks, etc). This is your "splash" page, so you could design it just like you have it set up in old SmugMug.

    3) You can also easily make "pages" in the New SmugMug, which work well for things like an About Me page. More info about how to make pages can be found here. Once you have created your pages, you could just make links in your navigation menu to link to those pages.

I think that will help get you started with customizing your New SmugMug site, but feel free to let us know if you have more questions. We'd also be happy to help you one-on-one--just drop us a line at help@smugmug.com and we can lend a hand!
