Shield bugs mating

I finally had a day where the sun shone a little bit more than of late, but still the wind that accompanied it was gusty and cool. Managed to find a couple of subjects other than these two.
Anyway - I spotted a movement on the branch of the apple tree and tried to get a shot of what turned out to be the first shield bug I have seen this year - and the first was a grab shot hence not at all sharp. But this male was in a hurry. I have no idea how he knew where to go, but 12 inches above him on a leaf was a female, who quite clearly turned out to be waiting for this romeo!
So he scooted up at a rapid rate of knots in pursuit of his nookie - and boy did he enjoy himself once he got there...

It is interesting that one is pink underneath (as I would expect) and the other is green.
