Hi dgrinners,

here's my latest offering from a very cold day in late December. Brrrrr, it was about -15 degrees Celsius (about 5 degrees Fahrenheit) and I get frostbite just from thinking about that day.

Lovely photos. I especially like the last one. I think you could boost the saturation a bit tho.

    Excellent work thumb.gif

I'm not fond of #2 but the others are just beautiful.

Wow, excellent! #2 doesn't do much for me, but the others are great. I wouldn't boost the saturation, I think the pastel tones set the right mood for these. Do you have any like #3 where the couple is closer to you?

I always look forward to seeing your work. These are very nice. I'm afraid I have to agree on #2 though.

Excellent pictures thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif . Contrary to the others I like #2. It’s not the best of the 4 but it would stand on its own. My personal pick would be #4, it shouts cold, cold weather & being a resident of Manitoba, Canada I do know cold weather.

    Beautiful shots!
I agree that the haze should stay in the picture, but the colors can be enhanced. If you just increase saturation, you may remove that haze.

If you have Photoshop, you may want to try to enhance color in Lab Mode (instead of RGB mode).
    1. Image --> Mode --> Lab.
    2. Layer --> New Adjustment Layer --> Curves
    3. Make the the lines (curves) of the a and b channels more steep, to increase color in your pic.
    4. Maybe twiddle a little with the line/curve of the L (lightness) channel.
    5. Flatten image and move back to RGB and save as JPEG.
I can't grasp the notion of time.

    in two billion years,
    all I can think is:
"Will that be on a Monday?"

    5. Sharpen a little, flatten image and move back to RGB and save as JPEG.

I did some of the above post-processing of your first pic (using Lab mode). I posted the result in this message. If you don't like me re-posting your pic, please leave a reply to this message and i will remove it.

What do you think of the result?
(because i post-processed your posted image and not the original, there is some banding and other small artifacts in the post-processed version)

BTW: I saw some of your other pics in your online gallery. I very much liked the picture of the lit church. Very very nice!

Lovely work Anna. As much as I hate cold winter weather, it can sure produce some wonderful winter landscape shots.

Looking at these shots makes me want to turn up the heat in the house. I'm freezing now!

But awesome shots. And I like the saturation levels as they are. The pastel colors really work for me.

I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

Thanks so much for giving me such helpful advice. I haven't tried this before, but I certainly will in the future with photos like this one. The result is quite good, apart from the artefacts caused by USM, but as you said, that is to be expected when working with an already postprocessed picture.

Thanks again, also for liking the other pics in my gallery! clap.gif

Thanks everybody for your nice words!
Actually, I do have a photo of a couple closer to me, but due to a long exposure and their moving, the couple is blurred to such extent that it doesn't look quite right if you know what I mean. :D
