These birds are often mistaken for the Sparrow which is due to the similarity in size and plumage. The obvious difference is the longer sharply pointed bill. They are often called Hedge Sparrows although they are NOT related.

They form family groups and unusually will form 2 male 1 female or 2 female and 1 male groups in the mating season.
