This is about the fourth encounter with springtails of this colour variety in my garden. They are to be found on the damp undersides of dead branches (up to wrist-thick) on grass in my garden. When exposed to light they keep walking quite rapidly and are likely to jump. To get the whole individual in the DOF needs at least f11. Diffraction plays a significant part at the magnification (ca x2, cropped strongly). These images have been given more than usual micro contrast and sharpening processing. This distorts OOF backgrounds.

There were a lot of tiny black specks of dirt on the sensor, coating form an over-tight adapter mount, most of which have been cloned out.

EM-1, extension, x 1.5 TC, reversed Schneider HM 40mm, twin diffused TTL flash.

Harold

Nice bug. But not very good focus.
