Mini Challenge #208 - On the road

I'd like to propose the theme "On the road" - I'm looking for roads in perspective, either curved (S curve) or strait (vanishing point), or integrated into a landscape, or something interesting about the road.

This challenge will run for 2 weeks - from today until July 7, 2015

OUR UN-OFFICIAL GENERAL RULES
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and YOU POST 1-3 IMAGES. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter. The 1st place winner becomes the next host, chooses the next topic and becomes the next judge.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
5. You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, just ask within your post.
6. The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.

Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. When quoting a post, change the IMG urls to a 200x200 size picture so it is clear your post is feedback and not another entry. (See here for help).
7. Don't be hesitant; share 'em and enter!

Mini-Challenge pointers:
1. Upon winning a mini-challenge round, your first step is coming up with a new theme and starting a new thread using the same format as others have used.
2. Make sure to notify the admin of this thread to update the main thread links with your entry thread.
3. Feel free to watch the thread as it grows or wait to the end time and look at all the entries all at once.
4. After the time/date has passed, then officially close the thread with a single post notifying everyone of the fact.
5. After you're finished judging, start a new thread (again using the prior formats) and post your Winner and runners-up. It is important to have runners up in case the winner does not show within the 72-hour window.
6. PM the winner with this info above and let them know they have 72 hours to set up the next mini-challenge.
7. If the winner does not show/start the next mini-challenge after 72 hours, notify the next runner-up and post a message on the Winner thread of the fact.
8. Remember, if you're the Winner, you run the next mini challenge!

I have so many - hard to decide. Working on it now.

I Have narrowed it down to the best 35 photos. I will do my best to winnow them down further

To begin with, I tried to eliminate streets, and paths and pictures which were not of a road that started from where the photographer was - that is I eliminated photos taken in cities or looking down on a road from above. This one is really a street and not a road, but I included it anyway.




Winter of 1958-59 with my first 35 mm camera which my dad gave me for my 20th birthday



This one was taken a few years later (1964) near Denver



THis one this year in Cornwall.


Just for grins - here's another one which I didn't include because it is not that good a photo and it really isn't about the road



This was taken in 1966 when Bob and I drove two cars from Monterey California to Key West FL. Bob was in the 1932 Plymouth and I was driving a VW bus. You can see the reflection of the steering wheel of the bus in the window.

I also include this one which is actually a street and doesn't really fit the description because I think it is funny - taken from my scooter of a traffic jam in Cornwall. Right after I took this I tried to drive the scooter across the street, and the scooter and I fell over. Neither of us hurt

I know there are many fantastic posts here! - BIG challenge for me to choose from...

OK,... it looks like the last day of this challenge has come. Good that at least there are 3 participants to choose from
Now, I have to say that the quantity doesn't really matter, but it's as always about quality and I think the images posted are almost all in the top

Let's see...

1. From Grandma's posts, I think I like more the one with the train, so the 3-rd prize will go to:

"This one was taken a few years later (1964) near Denver"

2. I like a lot Kate's posts (all 3), but I think I'll give her the second prize for:

#2 Narrow Road on a Winter's Day

3. Beautiful images posted by Jo West as well, and I like the mood in the "Horse & Buggy on dirt road"
However, to me the best is the first one: the narrow wavy road through the mountains - very nice perspective and framing.

So, for this challenge the first prize will go to Jo West for the "Colorado cliff road"
