Was at Folly Beach, SC recently and wanted to make a first-ever attempt at long exposures. On a budget-tripod. In the sand. With 40 mph gusts! My ND filter was 0.9 (three stops, right?). Would love your feedback and help! CCoop

#1
The groins (yes, I had to look it up in the dictionary). f/22, 15 sec.

First 2 are real nice! I am not sure what.....but I think more can be done with them in processing.......is first one mono-chrome? If not, i would explore the possibility!

None of these is monochromatic. But the darkness and ?maybe the ND filter? make them look desaturated. I'll try it out. Thank you for commenting.

I think Taz is right. I would try the first one in BW and increase the contrast and blacks a bit. I really like long exposures, well done.

OK, so #1 I converted to BW, darkened my black point, and slid the color filters more to the left on the orange and red channels, which brought out some more detail in the sky to the left. I've lost some of the detail in the rocks, but hey, they're black! I think it makes a more striking composition. Your thoughts?

Carter, I agree. I like the B&W much better vs the earlier color. clap.gif

In my experience the ND filter takes a few outings before you get comfortable with it. Nice first efforts! thumb.gif
