Had the first hawker dragonfly I've seen this year in the garden the other day. Did a bit of hunting and then hung up on a bush. Natural light shots except the head closeup.

    Brian,

Excellent images. The stereo is amazing!

A Blue/Southern Hawker male, not quite mature?

Brian, I think these might be some of your best as to subject! clap.gif

Thanks for the comments Harold and Wayne - appreciated :):

They are wonderful subjects but I do wish they perched like other dragons rather than hanging up on bushes.

Perching on bushes can make them easier to photograph than the (typical) waist-high Darter perch. On the other hand, you get more space behind most Darters and often more angles of approach

    Harold.

I purposely put darter dragonfly perches round the garden in places good for photography (ie backgrounds). I normally find the hawkers hang up in the worse places possible from a background POV - but still I suppose it's a different challenge.
