it's still the camera I lust after
I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

Isn't it interesting how our expectations of new camera release timelines have changed. I love the text in this review:
However, with extensive custom options, iTTL flash control with commander mode, and a rugged magnesium body, the perhaps long overdue D200 is sure to carve a niche for itself within the dense DSLR market.
And as a Nikon owner, I don't doubt that Nikon is grossly behind Canon's lead in the DSLR market and I've personally been hoping for improvements.
I'm only saying that it's relatively recent that camera manufacturers are expected to release a completely new model every 18 months - or risk being Long Overdue.
But I'm not really surprised. I work in the technology world where new releases are dated if they're not weekly . . .
(I know that the d200 is really a replacement for the d100 which has been out longer than 18mos - but at the d200's price point, it's also a compelling, relatively slight upgrade for the d70 which was newer on the scene - a little more than 18 mos.)
. . . my editorial . . .

Me too. I had mine pre-ordered in early November, but it seems that I won't get mine until near the end of January as it seems Nikon is struggling to meet demand. Oh well...
Regarding the originally posted review, my thoughts were the same. Seems reasonably objective...
Thanks,

I can definately sympathize. Let us know when it shows up!
