With the Canon-supplied software. You connect your camera to your computer and then there's a custom function in the software to add your name to the camera settings.

ne_nau.gif you'd have to read your camera's manual. Or, tell us your camera and we can try and find out for you :D

On Nikon, you can input custom notes in the exif for each picture. I haven't done it because I am still trying to figure out the basics, and that is way above me right now. :D

What communications mode do you have your 20D in to get this to work? I've tried both "Normal" and "PTP", with both firmware 1.1.0 and 2.0.3, with the EOS Viewer Utility 1.2.1.14. In normal mode with both versions of firmware the silly thing sees the camera is attached and shows it on the left hand list of places to look, but as soon as try to do anything that needs to talk to the camera it reports that it is unable to communicate with the camera.ne_nau.gif

Don't remember :D I just plugged the cord from the camera into the hole in the front of my G5, and it worked. I have a newish 20D I bought for my wife, I'll try and do it again and see what happens ...

OK - I just did it for my wife's 20D.

On my Mac G5...You have to use the Canon Software "Camera Window." First plug the USB into your camera (I had to go back to the box and get it, since I use a card reader to get my photos off the camera)... then plug into your computer.

    51371570-L-1.jpg

    .. then launch Camera Window...

    51371572-L.jpg

...then "set to camera" and type in your name, or whatever...

    51371574-L.jpg

    et, voila!
    51372351-L.jpg

    I hope this helps!

If there are users of Olympus cameras reading this: you can do it in Olympus Studio (trial is available as a download, or comes with your camera). Go to the Camera Control (might have to install the driver before that works), go to the menu Camera, choose Other settings... and type in the Camera ID you'd like to see reported.
enjoy being here while getting there

Heh, I do the same... no point using the camera's battery just to pull the data off the CF. :)

I suspect we have different versions of the canon software suite. My 20D came with the "EOS Digital Solution Disk" ver 9.1, which has only three mac products: EOS Viewer Utility 1.2.1, EOS Capture 1.2.0, PhotoStitch 3.1. I've since upgraded Capture to 1.5. The other CD it came with was Digital Photo Pro 1.5, which I've bumped up to 2.0.3. I've looked around on Canon's various websites, and have not yet found anywhere to download that, or even to see what the current version of that suite is.

I get the feeling from what I'm seeing online that the Viewer Utility is supposed to have this capacity... but for reasons unclear to me, it's not working with my setup. First suspect is 10.4, I'll give it a try sometime next week on my old 10.3 laptop from work.

Maybe. I had a 20D and 10.3 back in January 05 and know that I was able to do it.

EVU is dated, at least on the Mac. I think I used imagebrowser, which did what andy did, open camera window. It and other software can be downloaded at Canon's website under download library>Drivers / Software>Download Drivers

The last should pop up in a new window and might not work right with a pop up blocker on.

    Bingo. Thanks guys! thumb.gif

I'd been to that page repeatedly, but since IB was listed as an update only, I assumed it required you have an older version of IB around to update. Not so. Once that was installed everything worked like a charm. And now that I have set my name into the camera's vpd... I'll just relocate most of this canon software to the recycle bin.

No kidding. I wanted to see if I could do the same with my S70, but I was unable to connect to the camera. umph.gif Thankfully it worked with my 1DmkII.
