I had stopped feeding our garden birds, as their feeding activities had declined, it being August. Anyway, some of the local Feathered Mafia hassled me and I started putting food out again. It was 6.30 am and I noticed a coloured blob on a leaf of the Hazel bush adjacent to the bird table.
A quick look revealed an insect something like the Giraffe Weevil. I fetched my camera and shot a series of images via my Printing Nikkor 105mm at f11, FOV 17mm wide..
This weevil stayed perfectly still, apart form raising or lowering its head, for at last half an hour, a macro dream! Well, not quite a dream subject, the black, shiny beetles always being difficult to show at their best.

Yes. A bit of a poser too!

Seems to be trying to get better reception.
Thanks.
I am always a bit nervous about getting true colours. My recall of the original sighting was that the elytra were rather more red but I checked back to the RAW image, and to published images, and the colour is correct.

You said....I know I thought it was trying to do something.....now I know!
Perhaps it has a bug in its receiver?
