A dark blue sawfly, probably Arge berberidis (Hymenoptera: Argidae) the larvae of this species eat the leaves of berberis, but this one was on a fuchsia leaf...

Lovely capture Paul
I declared war on these this year- last year they completely stripped every leaf off 2 berberis I have.
I've been trapping them and drowning them to give them a sporting chance.

We have no berberis - so I assume it was just looking for it's natural food source. It did fly off a couple of minutes after this shot.
I just checked, I photographed one of these a couple of days ago. I think it was on a Foxglove. Mine, in one frame, has the appearance of small, blue scales, mostly laterally on the abdomen.
Paul, I don't know much about "sawflies" but the picture is really nicely composed and the background is very complimentary.
