While this picture contains I person, I don't feel that it belongs in "People". The reason being that the purpose of editing it was to de-emphasize the person in it, and instead emphasize the symbols surrounding them. I wanted to represent the way that I view the Honor Guard and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Being the son of a retired army veteran who is a very active member of many veteran's groups, I have grown up with a sense of the pride instilled in soldiers and the respect displayed for the fallen. I went to see Arlington and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with my parents, and I found that I viewed the Honor Guard as being entirely a symbol. The people who are a part of it represent it; it is as if they are not individuals when they are on duty, but a living symbol. That is why I wanted to de-emphasize the identity of the soldier on duty and instead emphasize their attire, motion, the environment, and the tomb itself. I felt that this would convey the sense of duty that is apparent to me from my upbringing; the commitment to the symbol of the Honor Guard and to the symbol of the whole of Arlington, really.

The symbols are recognizable and well-presented.
