shutter release for 10D?

what "remote" or shutter release do you guys do for night shots. I'm looking for one that will work on the 10D and preferable cheap.

Correct me if I am wrong, but...
Is the wired remote not just a momentary switch that connects the two contacts on that jack?
In theory, if that is true, then you could just wire up a momswitch on an old mini jack and have a remote.

I saw this homemade project utilizing an old mouse, stereo jack and some soder to make a "Remouse" as they call it.

You can also find a 10D remote on eBay for about $10~15. I have both the Canon version and the generic version, the difference is the Canon version has a nice metal plug where the generic version has a plastic plug. I found that the Canon version is very solid, stays in the plug connector but the generic version tends to fall out, and doesn't "click" when plugged in.

I'm going to use the generic version for the parts and make an extention cord for the Canon remote so it's not a loss.
