This spider mite was running around at high speed on a bay leaf. It stopped 3 times. Once to have a pedicure and twice to have a nibble on something on the leaf. About 1.5mm body length. All focus stacks using zerene apart from the animation.

    Brian,

I'm fairly sure it's not the common species, perhaps a fruit mite?

I think it may be this species:

    Carmine Spider Mite Tetranychus cinnabarinus

Good capture of it dancing the Buggie Wuggie! :D

Thanks for the comments Harold and SB :)

Harold think Tetranychus cinnabarinus is a plant pest whilst I'm pretty certain this one is omnivorous/predatory.

It has the general build of a parasitid mite but the colour and the eyes are wrong. There are other predaceous ones out there.
