External Links

This gallery keeps telling me I have external links turned off. I've looked through the settings 20 times. I can't figure out where else to look. How do I turn on external links so I can embed these images?

    Hi Kristen,

Our sorcerers are checking on this right now. The setting to turn on/off external embedding has been removed from the gallery settings, it was a confusing and ineffective image protection setting. Currently if a gallery had external embedding set to "OFF" that feature is still off. When this is updated I will update this ticket but there's an instant fix, you can create a new gallery and move (not collect) the photos into it. The new gallery will automatically have external links on.

You can subscribe to this thread for an automatic update on the external links settings when it's resolved.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, we are always happy to help.

This is a huge thing for posting on other sites like blogs. How do we know what it's set to when
    creating a new gallery?

BTW, I looked at my last gallery created and uploaded to and watermarks were turned off. Is this
something else they stuck in? I use a quick setting on every gallery created and noticed it was
    screwed up. http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=254904
I checked and it looked like the settings took but maybe not the WM setting?

I'm more confused: how do we allow external embedding if there's no setting to do so?

The issue Kirsten reported with the get a link tool is fixed. So the get a link > direct photo links tab should no longer display any error.

External embedding is always allowed now. There's no more setting to turn it off as it was ineffective and confusing.

Where are the announcements for these changes that have taken place recently? (No more gallery settings for sharpening levels, no more settings for embedding, & who knows what else..) I just don't understand why site-owners have to find out about these things by stumbling around, trying to find something in their settings that used to be there, etc. Communication is leaving a lot to be desired these days. I don't know what possible rationale SmugMug can have for just changing stuff & not bothering to announce it first. With a Pro level membership, one expects at least that much.

    Hi Anna Lisa,
Thanks for letting us know how you feel about the removal of these settings not having been announced. I've passed this on to our team. While these settings were were confusing to many users and overall not used much, I agree that it would have been good to at least announce their removal on the forum.

Agree! On arbitrary changes, perhaps a polling of Pro level members would be simple and possible to see where folks stand.

I had been doing monthly posts in the Product News forums. I'll start doing those again very soon. We're also looking at doing better in-product notification or a form or release notes. For now the Product News forum will be your best bet.
