Client area, but ability to share?

Hi!

I've googled, searched smug and had a rummage in here, but if I've missed it feel free to point me to info that's out there!

What I want is to set up a client folder (which will then contain proofs + final images). No problem, I use the "people I choose" option, and it sends the invite to the folder, in which the galleries are "unlisted".

HOWEVER, I want those folks to be able to let 3rd parties see their galleries as they wish, to help them choose images from their proofs. Is there a way to allow that access within a client area? I won't have those extra-people email addresses to add them; this would be the client asking friends/agents/family etc to view the images, not me.

Thanks!!

The "people I choose" feature only works if you know the email address of all people that you'd like to be able to see the content. Only the people that you specifically invite by entering their email would have access to the content.

If you'd like for client's to be able to reshare the gallery with others, you could use our other privacy features, e.g. by making the gallery unlisted and / or password protecting it. Then your clients would be able to pass the link / password to the gallery on to others as well.

I understand that, but there's no other way to set up the client area and have the system send the invites - or is there? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Another possibility: what if after using "send to people I choose", I then reset the permissions to "unlisted? Will the client still be immediately taken to their gallery when they log in?

The secure way the "people I choose" feature works, you can't mix and match. Either you restrict access to just the people you choose or you use unlisting / password protection.

If you disable "people I choose" by selecting a different access setting, clients you no longer be able to view content via their guest account. Depending on what setting you put in place, they'd need a link to the gallery and / or the password for it.

Well poop. My goal isn't to restrict access (i'm fine with "unlisted"), but to keep all a client's galleries in one place (I've made a folder for each), and not need to keep sending links. Can they share individual photos from the gallery as long as I have enabled permissions to allow that?

Unlisted galleries won't show up for visitors coming to your site, and you could only share them by providing clients with the link to their gallery. To avoid having to send out links to individual clients, you could consider using public galleries and to password protect those.

If the gallery is not set to access "people I choose", a visitor to the gallery could get the link for a photo to share with others. Visitors could use the share button below a photo > get a link tool > gallery links tab to get the lightbox link that would link others to the specific photo in the gallery.

We've had a feature request to allow a "Public Sharing" option -- which would allow you to add people similarly to "People I Choose" but also leave the gallery publicly open, so they could share it as well. It's definitely something we'd love to add in the future. Stay tuned.

I'd certainly be down with that!! Perfect would be to be able to set it to public or unlisted, but still as a client area. I follow and wait with interest!

If you have a business account, have you considered the events feature?

I don't have a business account - I don't do enough print orders - or do enough large events - to justify it, and while I'd like coupons and the ability for clients to favorite, they're not essential enough to double my subscription cost ....

I'm shooting mostly performer headshots, and my workflow is to send the client a proofs gallery, if they need it while choosing create a "shortlist" gallery for them once they've whittled it down, and then deliver final images to a "final" gallery in both web and high resolution. The client area concept is GREAT for this as I can just make a folder for the client and keep the galleries within that (without having to send multiple links), but many clients want to share images with agents/teachers/coaches/friends/family etc to help make their selects, so the ability to link the gallery onwards should they choose would be AWESOME :)

Wouldn't sharegroups accomplish this? Put all your unlisted galleries in a sharegroup you give to your client. Create a sharegroup for each client?

Or password protect all the galleries with one password, put them as unlisted, put them all in the same folder. unlock one will unlock them all.

Sharegroups? Enlighten me - have somehow managed to miss that option..... :)

FWIW, I don't particularly like password-ing galleries. That degree of security just isn't necessary, and I find it a bit of a deterrent for many people.

I actually agree for the most part. Though, I tend to lean on the safe side with paying clients. But you can find more about sharegroups here: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93261-can-i-share-multiple-unlisted-galleries-with-one-link-sharegroups-

Not sure if there's another one, but you can just ignore the password part if you don't need it.

Interesting!! For now, I'll stick with current workflow (I just switched to client spaces and LOVE how much easier it is for me to organize!) and hope that smug changes the permissions options, but if not..... sharegroups might be a good alternative. Thanks!
