... of shooting with a DSLR yesterday.

A guy at work just bought his wife a D70s for Christmas. Him and I talk photography all the time, so he brought it in today, to let me check it out.

I haven't had the chance to shoot with the Canon 20d yet, but man did holding and shooting with this DSLR today make me want one BAD!!!

as soon as I get the money, I'm totally jumping into this!!!

Currently shooting with a Sony 717 (shutter lag gallore) This DSLR sure can focus hella fast and with a push of the shutter i was convinced!!!

    Well......
I test fired a Canon 20D and a Nikon D70 with the same speed f-stop wise lens.
The 20D focused faster and shot more FPS than the D70 by at least 40%.

That was my own observation with side by side comparison.

My D2h shoots faster than both of those combined!

Not really a fair comparison though. D70 was released more than a year before the 20D. It's leapfrog, now the D200 smokes the 20D. In march, Canon will have an even better one.

You have to go with what feels right in your hand and which controls suit you. As someone who has used both, most things are "backwards" between the brands. But what is backwards for one, is the right way for others. Ops, do a thorough trial before you pick a brand. Some people like menus (Canon), some people like buttons/switches (Nikon). Decide on your own, don't let things like FPS numbers sway you as they will continually get better.

How many times have we said, its the shooter, not the gun? Steven, you've got a great eye - go birding, it'd be fun to see the two different viewpoints of the outing.

I have long fingers so the Nikon was a bit small for me as well as the other factors.
The construction and size of the Canon XT was a turn off.
All to the persons personal taste. I still say there are more Canon users than Nikon out there thus makes it easier to get stuff 2nd hand.ne_nau.gif

Hi ya Steven......... I too have a couple of Sonys which I will not give up, I love it's infrared capabilties, and the ease at which it does night shots.
Moving to a DSLR was quite daunting for me but heck what an experience.
Yep you'll be hooked in no time, but I still get my old Sony out every now and then..... looking good thumb.gif Skippy (Australia)

    Right there
    I'm right there also.

Started photography about a year and a half ago, bought the Canon EOS 300D and now thinking of the 20D.

But no money, just bought a house... what was I thinking ??? rolleyes1.gif

I just read a review on the 200D and really, it just gets more and more frustrating.

You buy one, and a month later, there is a better one in the market.

Well, at least the better one is much more expensive so you can't have it anyway... :hang

But I think, it is a good idea to just hold them in the shop and see what feels better, thanks for that Graphy

I'm at that point too....just bought our 1st house.

Yeah I tested a 20D and a D70....decided both were a bit rich for me.....thus I bought a nice used 10D which is VERY similar to the 20D I liked.

Once Canon brings out a new model....20D users will HAFTA have it......then I'll be able to get a 20D in my range! :D
    That's how I got my 10D.....Guy HAD TO HAVE a 20D.rolleyes1.gif
