This species was at ground level on the remains of a rotten tree stump. The higher magnification was at 1:1.

With this kind of subject, sometimes composition has to give way to showing the variety of interesting detail.

Both are nice, Harold, but I love the colors, focus and DOF on the first!

    Thanks.

They are different views of the same colony. I remember some difficulty in finding an aesthetic viewpoint. I had to lower the camera into the hollow stump a little way. Most lichens are more accessible.

    Thanks, Brian.

I nearly overlooked it. There was a second colony but I could get a worthwhile image.
